DAYAAMOYI HOYE GO MAA NIDAYAA HOYO NA SHYAMA!
This is a glorious Bengali song of a special genre that we used to sing at the Ramakrishna Ashrama/Math Bangalore, especially during the Durga Puja. It’s sung in slow pace in chorus, embellished with rhythm and harmonium. I’m sure Balu Nadig, Gururaj Krishnamurthy and Neergunda Lakshminarayana Venugopal can vouch for this and add a lot more! (Of course, it’s still sung by a few who have learnt and retained it.)
At our little group of Sharada Gurukula Vanishree Satyamurthy & Vijayalakshmi had learnt this, and we were lucky to have rendered it in 2006 at the Gokhale Institute. This was an impromptu rendition, certainly not our best effort – there’s no taala or tabla accompaniment. Still, something for us to cherish 🙂
